Dr. Joel Spitz is a board-certified dermatologist whose career spans academic medicine, personalized clinical care, and healthcare innovation. A graduate of Princeton University, Dr. Spitz earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his dermatology residency training at Columbia, an institution where his commitment to the field first took root and continues to be felt today.
Dr. Spitz is widely regarded as a national thought leader in genetic syndromes and the skin. His seminal text, Spitz's Genodermatoses, has become a cornerstone of dermatology residency training programs around the world, cementing his legacy as an educator and authority in the field. He has lectured extensively throughout the United States and internationally, bringing his expertise to dermatologists and trainees across the globe.
Beyond the lecture hall, Dr. Spitz has built an equally distinguished clinical career. He has served as Director of Dermatology Services for the US Open for over a decade and has been the team dermatologist for the NHL's New York Islanders for the past five years, roles that reflect both his clinical excellence and the trust elite organizations place in his care.
A longtime pioneer in teledermatology and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Spitz has founded and built multiple ventures at the intersection of dermatology and technology. In 2020, he co-founded Honeydew alongside David Futoran, a telehealth dermatology company redefining how patients access expert skin care across the country.
