Teledermatology, also called online dermatology or virtual dermatology, is dermatology care delivered remotely through a secure digital platform. Instead of visiting an office, you complete an online medical intake and upload clear photos of your skin concern. A licensed Honeydew dermatology provider reviews your case and responds with a diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan. Prescriptions, if appropriate, are sent to your pharmacy or shipped to your door.
In most cases, the same day. After you submit your intake and photos, a licensed Honeydew provider reviews your case, typically within hours and always within 24 hours. If a video visit is needed, you can book one within 48 hours. By comparison, new patients in the U.S. wait one to three months to see a dermatologist in person. Our providers are accepting new patients now, so a closed practice or long waitlist doesn't have to delay your care.
Getting started takes about 5 minutes. Create an account, complete a short medical intake, and upload clear, well-lit photos of the affected area, both close up and from a slight distance. A licensed provider reviews your case and sends you a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and any prescriptions, delivered to your pharmacy or your door. Your first consultation is free, and your Care Team stays available for follow-up questions, refills, and plan adjustments.
Yes. Honeydew has licensed dermatology providers in all 50 U.S. states. Whether you live in a major city, a suburb, or a rural area with limited access to in-person dermatologists, you can see a Honeydew provider online. There are no geographic restrictions on your eligibility for care, and the process works the same way wherever you are.
Most common and chronic skin conditions can be treated online. Honeydew providers regularly treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea, as well as seborrheic dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, hyperpigmentation and melasma, folliculitis, keratosis pilaris, hives, hair loss, and nail psoriasis. If a condition needs a biopsy, a procedure, or an in-person lab test, your provider will tell you clearly and help you get the right referral.
Yes. Honeydew providers are licensed dermatology practitioners with prescribing authority in all 50 states. If your condition calls for prescription treatment, and most chronic skin conditions do, your provider will prescribe it and send it to your preferred pharmacy or arrange delivery to your door. Most treatments available in a dermatology office are available through Honeydew, from topicals to oral medications to biologic injections.
Yes. Honeydew providers can prescribe biologics for moderate to severe eczema and psoriasis entirely online. This includes Dupixent (dupilumab), Adbry (tralokinumab), and Ebglyss (lebrikizumab) for eczema, and Skyrizi (risankizumab) and Tremfya (guselkumab) for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Biologics require a full clinical evaluation and prior authorization with your insurance, which our care team handles for you.
Honeydew's basic membership starts at $25 per month, billed annually. It covers unlimited provider access, prescription coordination, and ongoing follow-up care, with no co-pays or per-visit fees, and your first consultation is free. Medications are billed separately by your pharmacy. Membership is HSA and FSA eligible, so you can pay with pre-tax dollars. By comparison, a single in-person dermatology visit often costs $150 to $300 without insurance.
No insurance is required to get started. Your membership is a flat, transparent fee that isn't billed to insurance, so your visits need no referrals or approvals. If you have insurance, Honeydew accepts it for your prescriptions: we submit them to your plan to lower medication costs and help with prior authorizations. Without insurance, we help you find the most affordable pharmacy and savings options. Learn how Honeydew works with insurance.
For most common and chronic skin conditions, yes. Dermatology is a visual specialty, and diagnosis relies on how skin looks, which high-quality photos capture well. Peer-reviewed studies comparing teledermatology with in-person visits have found equivalent diagnostic accuracy, treatment outcomes, and patient satisfaction. The same prescription treatments are available, and care starts sooner. Conditions that need a biopsy, lab test, or procedure are referred for an in-person visit.
Yes. Honeydew's care team is made up of board-certified dermatology providers. Our physicians are board-certified dermatologists who completed medical school and a dermatology residency. Our nurse practitioner is a board-certified dermatology nurse practitioner (DCNP) with specialized dermatology training. Every provider is licensed in the states where they see patients and is held to the same clinical standards as an in-person dermatology practice.
Yes. Teledermatology is an established, evidence-based model of care that has been studied for over two decades and is recognized by major medical organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology. Honeydew is LegitScript certified, a healthcare compliance standard confirming that telehealth providers operate legally and prescribe responsibly. Our providers are licensed in all 50 states, our platform is HIPAA compliant, and your medical information and photos are encrypted and protected.
Your Honeydew provider will tell you clearly if your condition needs an in-person evaluation, biopsy, or procedure that can't be done through telehealth, such as a skin cancer screening, a suspicious lesion that needs a biopsy, or cryotherapy. In those cases, your provider explains what's needed and helps guide you to the appropriate in-person referral, so you always know your next step.
